UPS and the Fashion Industry – Behind the Seams

The fashion industry, from design to wardrobe, is more global than most might imagine. Once a concept is developed, samples are designed, manufactured and approved, typically from opposite ends of the earth. When approved, the garment is manufactured – many times from a variety of locations across the globe – and distributed to retailers around the world. All of this happens within a few months and must allow for last minute changes in inventory and shipment destinations, as well as direct-to-consumer orders. UPS helps its customers manage the complexities of synchronising the goods, information and funds necessary to bring garments and accessories to catwalks, retailers and wardrobes the world over.

For its 100th anniversary in 2007, UPS asked the designer Karine Arabian to fashion a bag representing the "UPS woman", consistent with UPS brand values as well as with the expectations of today’s women. From this request the Youps was born.

It is for this UPS woman, whose life is similar to that of many modern day women, that Karine Arabian has combined glamour with functionality, elegance with practicality, and frivolity with the essential. The fruit of her labour was the Youps, a coveted item that is set to become an absolute must-have.
